Historically, Beltane was a fire festival, bonfires were lit to honor the sun and encourage a good growing season. People would drive cattle between the fires for protection, and it was a time of fertility rituals, feasting, and celebration of life, love, and the natural world.
Communities still celebrate Beltane today with dancing (especially around a Maypole), lighting fires, and ceremonies focused on love, fertility, and the blossoming earth.
