ULC is opening a new chapter on our socials this summer. ULC Reads, our digital book club, has our team members recommending books that have shaped how they see housing, land, or community. First up is Autumn Brennan, ULC's director of strategic partnerships.
"This book resonated with me right away," Autumn said about "The City We Became," by N.K. Jemisin. "My family is from New York City, and we visited often when I was younger. In the story, the five boroughs are brought to life as people, each with a distinct personality, who unite to fight the Woman in White. It explores racism, displacement, and identity in a way I had never seen before. I have worked in real estate my entire career, so I love the idea of cities as living, breathing beings. It is a reminder of the work we do and why preserving the culture and heart of a city, town, or community matters for everyone who lives in it."

Affordable housing builds more than homes. It builds Colorado's economy.
A report from the nonpartisan Colorado Futures Center quantifies what housing advocates have long understood.
It finds that the development and preservation of affordable housing across the state generates $2.7 billion in economic activity each year, sustains over 14,000 jobs, and returns nearly $80 million in annual tax revenue to Colorado.
Private and public investments in Denver-area affordable housing alone resulted in more than $2 billion in annual economic output. In other words: affordable housing is not a net cost to Colorado’s economy; it is a contributor.
