News Release

Type of Incident: Vehicular Homicide
Case Number: 26-3053
Incident Date: 5/28/2026
Prepared by: James Burlison

(Northglenn, CO) - On May 28, 2026, at approximately 11:50 p.m., a Northglenn police officer attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle after observing erratic driving behavior in the area of Washington Street and East 112th Avenue.

The driver initially stopped but then fled the traffic stop. Moments later, the vehicle crashed into a home in the 10400 block of Clarkson Street. Officers located the driver, identified as 18-year-old Angelo Arias, at the crash scene and took him into custody.

During the investigation, officers determined a passenger was also inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. The passenger, an 18-year-old female, was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries sustained in the crash and later passed away.

As a result of the crash, a natural gas line was ruptured. A CodeRed emergency notification was sent to nearby residents, and several homes were evacuated as a precaution. Residents were allowed to return to their homes after utility crews shut off the damaged gas line, and the area was deemed safe.

Based on the investigation, including evidence of impairment, Arias has been charged with Vehicular Homicide, along with other related charges. Formal charges will be determined by the Adams County District Attorney’s Office. All persons are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

This remains an active investigation. Anyone with information related to this incident is encouraged to contact Detective Brummel at 303.450.8857 or [email protected].

❎Triple-digit speeds are never acceptable. 102 in a 40 on a city street puts everyone at risk.

On May 22, officers witnessed an Audi speed through a red light before accelerating to more than 100 mph in a posted 40 mph zone. The driver continued southbound at dangerous speeds, weaving through traffic and crossing solid lane lines.

After activating emergency lights, officers briefly got the vehicle to stop on the I-25 on-ramp, but the driver suddenly fled back into traffic, cutting off another vehicle while merging onto I-25. Due to the extreme speeds and reckless behavior, the incident created a serious danger to everyone on the roadway.

Officers were able to identify the vehicle and track down the driver at a nearby residence. The suspect admitted to driving and said he fled because he did not have a valid driver’s license. He was arrested and taken to the Adam's County Detention Facility on the charges of reckless driving, speeding more than 40 mph over the limit, eluding law enforcement, running a red light and driving without a valid license.
