For many years, feline osteoarthritis (OA) was commonly associated with age-related joint changes and described as a "wear-and-tear" condition.
Today, a growing body of research suggests feline osteoarthritis may involve a broader range of biological processes, including mechanical, immune and metabolic factors. This evolving understanding highlights the complexity of feline OA and suggests that pathology is occurring before noticeable shifts in mobility, activity, or behavior are observed.

We’re pleased to share a newly published manuscript from Gallant’s vice president of Veterinary Affairs, Dr. Rebecca Windsor, DVM, DACVM.
Published in Rare Disease and Orphan Drugs Journal, this review explores how mesenchymal stromal cell (MSC) therapy may transform treatment approaches for rare, often devastating neurological diseases, along with observed similarities between some human and companion animal neurological conditions.
This work highlights the pivotal role of veterinary medicine in advancing translational science—and the opportunity to bring meaningful innovation to patients with limited options.

Today marks Gallant’s next meaningful step toward transforming osteoarthritis care for pets.
Two exciting new developments:
🔹 FDA-CVM grants Gallant eligibility for expanded conditional approval for our canine OA mesenchymal stromal cell (MSC) therapy
🔹 Gallant’s randomized, placebo-controlled pilot trial data evaluating intravenous (IV) MSCs in canine patients with naturally occurring OA demonstrate a strong safety profile with repeat IV dosing and positive efficacy data across all pet parent and veterinary assessed outcomes.

Osteoarthritis, the most common disease in dogs, is now understood to be an immune-driven condition that begins early in life. Advances in Gallant’s canine IV OA platform represent steady progress toward making MSC therapy accessible to all veterinarians and pets. With MSCs’ potential to control clinical signs AND address the biological processes driving disease, the future of OA management is looking bright.
