4240 Architecture

The Boundary at Moreland Village in Palmetto Bluff, South Carolina, is a reinterpretation of low-country American colonial architecture adapted to address the humid subtropical climate frequented by heat and storms using passive strategies and local and reclaimed materials, bringing historical forms to contemporary construction.

Moreland Village was purposely arranged to mimic a set of buildings constructed over time rather than a community built with a singular masterplan at a single point in time. There's a certain chemistry the buildings have with one another--interpreted through scale, form, the material palette, and circulation patterns — weaving their individual identities together into one cohesive story.

Pictured here is the outdoor dining room at night. A place where the community gathers. The Boundary's restaurant, bar, and lounge are key elements, with the lounge centrally located and opening directly to the game hall, bowling alley, and restaurant. It offers views to the pools and preserve marshes beyond.
