Images of wildlife, landscapes, and geek culture from my travels.

“Corona” One of my priorities shooting this week’s total eclipse was to capture as many features of the sun as I could with my set up. I really wanted to capture prominences, diamonds, and especially as much of the corona as I could. This shot is a composite of 5 different photos, allowing as much detail of the corona to be seen as I was able to capture.

“Totality”

Thursday afternoon, I picked my kids up from school and we immediatley began our nearly 1,000! mile journey to Hot Springs, Arkansas. Having been witness to a few eclipses before, I was excited to spend 4 minutes and 16 seconds in Totality!

This would be our second eclipse within a year, as we travelled to Roswell for the annular eclipse. This would also be our second total eclipse ever, as we camped in Grand Teton for the 2017 eclipse.

The solar activity this time around made sure to keep things interesting. We were able to see many prominences and features that couldn’t been seen during any of our past eclipses. The corona also seemed much more active, stretching out much more than I was able to see in 2017.

If you look closely, you can see prominences at 3 and 6 o’clock on the sun. I’ll post some higher speed images soon that show them in more detail.

Thanks for looking! And as always, feel free to share :)
