Consciously Cleaner

IDK if it’s really a day, but 💯 on board to celebrate! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
With the state of the world, it’s pretty clear we need to be more responsible to our Earth and health. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Proper forest maintenance, responsible choices, less waste, more clean energy innovation. Not to mention, safer chemicals use for our bodies and our environment! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

This year I added to my sustainability plan: renting clothes instead of buying, shopping local for all our of household needs that I could, more composting and lots more plants 🌱 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The snow is such a blessing right now. Quieting the unrelenting fires in our beautiful state. It’s all been incredibly heavy for me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Mostly because I know that I’m part of the problem. We’re all part of the problem. I may be over generalizing, but I imagine that we all have situations where we think “oh it’s just me, just one time.” Be it a ton of bags at the store or buying a Costco 2 gallon container of chemicals we wouldn’t normally use, we all (likely) do it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The fires are all (again likely) caused by humans that probably thought “oh it’s me, it’s fine.” But every fire, every gun shoot, every mismanaged situation, it’s causing catastrophic damage. In fact, CU has determined that 97% of wildfires that cause property damage are caused by humans. 9-7!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I’m a progress not perfection gal, so I guess that’s what makes this all heavy. I don’t expect anyone to do it all. I do hope that we can all fully think through our actions. Seek ways to do better and off set our not perfect lifestyle choices because if we don’t, this s**t will keep happening.

I’ve been sitting on this perspective for days, afraid to speak out. The second Amazon dropped Prime Day emails in my “inbox” though the thoughts grew bigger. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

In order to create a diverse and sustainable marketplace in America, I’m asking you to look at your big box consumption. How you shop is a direct vote for how you want our economy to operate and I’ll unapologetically share my thoughts.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Things to consider:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- Free Shipping probably isn’t really free shipping. You pay membership fees, products are marked up, or a business is taking a substantial loss costing some or even their entire profit to “ship free”. It’s not free ppl. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- Return culture has made the carbon footprint of direct shipping higher than retail shopping. It used to actually be better for the environment (once upon a time) to have things shipped to you. That’s simply not the case anymore with our return culture and 3rd party vending in 55 boxes per order. **55 is dramatic, noted**⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

- Small business employs your local community. The teens, the moms, the grandpas... you get my drift. When you choose “click” somewhere for faster or cheaper you’re reducing your local jobs.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

- Many of your small businesses are providing you with content and experiences. Don’t stalk, shop. There will be no content if there is no business.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
