This June will mark the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, the start of the modern gay rights movement in our country. The Denver Gay Men’s Chorus and The Denver Women’s Chorus will be celebrating this milestone with the Colorado premiere of “Quiet No More: A Choral Celebration of Stonewall”.

The product of a multi-year project to commemorate the seminal event in LGBT history which gave rise to the gay civil rights movement in the United States, “Quiet No More: A Choral Celebration of Stonewall” honors the vast legacy and worldwide change that resulted from six days in June, 1969 in the West Village of New York City.

The large choral work for treble and bass voices, narrators and chamber orchestra, consists of eight movements by six distinguished choral composers which tell complex stories of LGBTQ life in the 1960s; the events leading up to the riots at the Stonewall Inn; and the ripple effects worldwide that resulted from the brave actions of protesters who were no longer willing to accept the way things were.

In an homage to local gay rights activists, the performances by The Denver Gay Men’s Chorus and The Denver Women’s Chorus also will include narrations highlighting the GLBT leaders and noteworthy "Stonewall Moments" that fostered the growth of the gay rights movement in Denver and the Rocky Mountain Region.

There are four more opportunities to experience this outstanding production, with three of the concerts being held in the King Center Concert Hall here on the Auraria Campus:
