Wonder why it’s beneficial to eat seasonally? Well, for better taste of course😋! But also to balance our Yin/Yang energy and to harvest as much nutrient dense food for our bodies.
The energy has expanded from the roots and out into the fruits & foliage! It is the time of eating fresh salads, fruits, and vegetables. During winter, it’s the best time to eat root vegetables, because the energy contracts inwards. The reserve of Qi in the roots is nutrient dense. During this time of year, the Qi has migrated from the roots, and expanded outward. Now is the time to nourish ourselves with vital ☯️ Qi that resides in our favorite summertime foods like chards, spinach, broccoli, cabbage, kale, arugula, peppers, onions, squash, eggplant, celery, zucchini, rhubarb, melons & citrus, Lotus seeds, bamboo🎍, and aloe... just to name a few!
Summer is also the season for bitter tastes! Bitter is tonifying, it stimulates digestion and increases appetite. TCM suggests eating bitter food, like greens, plays the role of draining excess dampness. Excess dampness can disturb digestion, promote swelling and puffiness ~ not imbalances you want during your summer fun!
