I once had an executive coach tell me to stop committing to the outcome but to actually just commit to the journey. I was so focused on being a COO. That’s all I wanted. And what she said is that sometimes when you’re so narrowed in on the outcome, you close yourself off to other opportunities that can be bigger, better or different and - on your own path. As I look back from where I sit now, I realize that I would not be a good COO. That is what I thought success looked like but that was not for me. Let’s be honest, being buried in process, procedures and creating efficiencies would drain my soul. Things are bigger, better and different than I could’ve ever imagined and it’s all because I committed to the journey and didn’t tie myself up in an outcome.
