Great to have Nikita Habermehl, doctor and health expert, visit to brief our canvass team! She provided an eye-opening look at how neonicotinoids are impacting our daily lives.

Here's what you need to know: Neonicotinoids (neonics) are the most widely used neurotoxic insecticides in the U.S. While we know they are decimating bees, birds, and other wildlife, mounting evidence shows neonic pollution may have effects on human health as well, especially for children. Roughly half of Americans are exposed to neonics on any given day—mostly from contaminated water and food. This increases our risks of nerve damage, developmental disabilities in children, and impaired reproductive health, among other harms. 🌍🐝

Big news for Colorado drivers and wildlife!

On Monday, lawmakers passed SB26-141, the Wildlife Collision Prevention Act. The bill now heads to the Governor’s desk to be signed into law. Thanks to State Senator Dylan Roberts, Cleave Simpson Colorado State Senator District 6, Representative Julie McCluskie, and Representative RickTaggart for sponsoring this bill.

In 2024, Colorado saw more than 3,500 wildlife-vehicle collisions. This legislation provides a consistent revenue stream to build the infrastructure needed to prevent these accidents. Crossings like culverts and overpasses are proven to reduce collisions by over 90%.

How it works:

The law creates a $5 contribution mechanism within the vehicle registration process. It is entirely optional—you can decline the fee when you register your vehicle without any impact on your registration status.

This funding ensures Colorado can continue to lead the way in wildlife protection while leveraging federal matching grants for major safety projects.
