Finish basement project coming together! This one features a gas fireplace and a separate workout room. There’s some important considerations to building basement walls to protect them from future issues. Moisture coming through the foundation wall will condensate on the back of drywall causing mold and damp insulation that never dries. Also warm air can make it through the drywall from the inside and will condensate on the cold concrete wall, wetting the fiberglass and eventually cause odor and mold issues. These walls are built using EPA recommended practices for moisture control in finish basements. The key is keeping the warm air from reaching the cold concrete. Using 1” R5 foam or better against the foundation before building the walls eliminates most issues that can ruin your nice new space.
