And in that time, we have had more than a dozen language attempts at such systems. But nothing other than these two competing forms has ever emerged.

Today, we still have just these three. Windows (DOS) and Unix (Linux and MacOS).

None of them bring what the other brings to the table, forcing the end users to make hard choices between these systems.
