This past weekend and week were busy for the Delegates of Local 254 and the Sisters and Brothers of District 6.
The Iowa State Council conference was held Feb 20-22 @ Prairie Meadows with the Iowa Federation of Labor following the 23 & 24th.
The events allowed a variety of speakers, legislators, and IAM representation to remind us of our responsibilities to focus on the labor issues we ALL face. IAM International President Brian Bryant spoke on the affects that the adminstration is having on our industries, members and the working class as a whole. These conferences spoke to the truth of the climate towards labor, the working class, the obstacles we face and the OPPORTUNITIES we have right now.
Our Delegates were able to take the information we learned and lobby at our State House They spoke with representatives, other Labor leaders and most importantly, showed a strong opposition to what Whirlpool is doing to our Sisters and Brothers employed there. There was a press conference where not only did we have IA Federation of Labor and L254 Brother Charlie Wishman speak but also District 6 Business Rep Todd Waddell and Whirlpool employee, Sister Sandy Lorenz L1526 to speak as members directly affected.
Overall, it was a great 4 days of education, networking and Solidarity for IAM Union members and union members from other industries to come together.
If any Local 254 members would like to become more involved, please reach out to your E-board or Business Representative.
WE DO BETTER WHEN WE ALL DO BETTER!

Please consider signing this petition to help send a message for our IAM Union family in Amana, Iowa.
The IAM represents 1300 members down from nearly 3000 a year ago at this plant. Approximately 400 more members are in jeopardy of layoffs soon at Whirlpool, as the company expands operations in Mexico.
Layoffs at Whirlpool Corporation mean Iowa families are hurting.
These aren’t just jobs, they’re livelihoods that support our communities.
Keep our jobs in Iowa. https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/tell-whirlpool-american-workers-deserve-a-future-not-pink-slips?source=direct_link
