Day 3 of Adventures in Architecture gave campers a firsthand look at some of Iowa's most significant modern architecture!
Campers toured the Drake University campus, including Eero Saarinen's beautiful chapel with the help of a guide from substance Architecture. They also explored Meredith Hall, designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, where architects from BNIM shared insights into the building's design and historic restoration.
Back in the studio, campers went 3D with their modeling projects.
Thank you to our volunteers for helping campers see architecture through the eyes of professional designers!

Day 2 of Adventures in Architecture took campers from the design studio to the top of Iowa! 🏛️
The day began with a behind-the-scenes tour of ONP Architects, where campers learned about the work of architects and designers. They then visited the Iowa State Capitol, where they got a close look at the painstaking restoration of the building's historic chamber walls, including the use of stencils to recreate intricate decorative paint patterns. The highlight was all the way to the top of the Capitol dome for an unforgettable view!
Back at Drake University, campers continued developing their camp room redesign projects, selecting color palettes, fabric samples, and flooring materials with guidance from volunteers from Pigott.
Thank you to OPN Architects, the Iowa State Capitol staff, and Pigott for helping bring architecture and design to life for our campers!
