Last Friday, my mother called at 5:15 (ironically enough) to let me know her mother, and my grandmother Marie, had passed away.. I knew something up because she never calls during dinner time, and rarely on a Friday. As I stared at the phone, I knew what the call was about. Like many others who are blessed enough to reach their 90’s, some days were better than others, but the previous 6 months had been rough. Receiving the news meant she was at peace.

3 hours later we was on the stage opening up to Bone-Thugs-N-Harmony.. a group that helped to shape my sound and folks I admired being from Cleveland. They got love, admiration and actually made it coming from the Midwest, so it seemed reachable to us.. they also had a song with Biggie & Pac and not many folks are able to claim that..

I got a chance to share a moment of silence, love & remembrance for her. She was a good woman. Like my sisters said during her service yesterday, she was very present. Did the most with what she had. Was extremely resourceful. Creative. A great listener and made you feel at home. I pray she was enjoying the show Friday night, and dancing a little like she’d try to every now and then when one of her favorites came on. Love you and always will. Hug ya people and be present. Got one shot.
