I tell the following to clients, colleagues, and strangers alike constantly: There are 7 billion people on this planet. If you happen to do something that nobody else is doing, great! Congratulations! But we can’t all be Jeff Bezos. Chances are there are million people behind you starting the same type of business, offering the same type of service or product to sell, or working the same type of job that you have or want.

So what can you do?

1. Don’t be discouraged!

2. Tell your story! That is the only thing that makes each person on this planet unique—their story, their identity. Differentiate yourself by leveraging what makes you one of a kind.

The value of your business or career comes from the people that engage with it. Relational reciprocity makes the world go round. Don’t be afraid to invest time into telling your story and cultivating those relationships with the people who identify with it.

Invest in people. Invest in relationships. Invest in yourself and your story. I promise you won’t be sorry if you do.
