Detroit Opera joins the music world in mourning the passing of Peabo Bryson, the beloved two-time Grammy Award-winning singer whose extraordinary voice touched generations.
In 1998, Bryson brought his star power and unmistakable charisma to Michigan Opera Theatre as Sportin’ Life in Porgy and Bess. Opening on May 30 and running through June 21, the production remains the longest-running opera in the company’s history: a record-breaking four weeks of performances.
Welcoming an artist of Peabo Bryson’s stature was a special moment for MOT, and Detroit audiences showed him just how much he was loved.
We remember his artistry, his warmth, and his place in our company’s history with gratitude.
