🍽️ We rescued “Paul the Meatball” almost 18 months ago. He was waiting at Detroit Animal Control with no way out. He was taken out and quickly returned and sat in a four by four kennel awaiting his fate. Despite volunteers at the municipal shelter who loved him, he had no pathway.
Kristina and the team fell in love with him instantly. It was going to be a long shot, it was going to be a lot of work, it was going to take dedication and an adopter who understood him, but it wasn’t impossible. So, the team decided to pull him from the municipal shelter that day and bring him to Detroit Dog Rescue.
Over the next year, the team worked hard with Paul using positive reinforcement training and he made improvements, but we still knew he needed the right home. This meatball needed a special sauce if his life was going to be gravy.
So, the adoption team got to work. They found Paul a foster who was willing to do the work. Now, Paul is officially home. PAUL IS ADOPTED!
We can’t thank his adopter enough for being willing to do the work. Training with your dog builds the best bond. No human or dog is perfect, but if you do the work, you’ll see it’s with it! 🍝

“Rouge Park has been a continuous dumping ground for live and dead dogs, and we continue to rescue dogs in the area,” said Kristina Rinaldi, Executive Director of Detroit Dog Rescue. “Detroit Dog Rescue was willing to find funding for [a task force]. That idea was turned down by the [city’s] past administration’s representatives.”

Deadly dumping ground: More dead dogs show up in Detroit park, rescuers demand help
It’s a disturbing and disgusting trend that animal rescuers and Detroiters say has plagued Detroit’s Rouge Park for decades: dogs and cats abandoned, abused, and left for dead in one of the city’s largest parks. But the City of Detroit says it now has a plan.
Ron Williams and Ricky Vendramini told Local 4 they have recently discovered several deceased dogs in and around Rouge Park. Sarah Hall, who recently met the pair while helping search the area this month, said the discoveries, which included a decomposing dog inside a crate, and two dogs “strung up” inside plastic bags, has left her shaken.
“[I am] disgusted. I lost sleep. I haven’t really been back since,” Hall said.
