“Illuminated Balloon Heads” are monuments that photographically portray a cross-section of Detroit citizens and displays them on balloons that are 10 feet tall and illuminated from within. The concept aims to give voices to Detroit community members and icons to present them in an equal way. We interviewed featured Detroit community members to learn more about their hopes for the City of Detroit!

“Illuminated Balloon Heads” by Mentalgassi are an exciting, whimsical installation located in College for Creative Studies’ Sculpture Garden. See it tonight at !

Hey Scene Fans! We're getting lots of questions about attending The Scene tonight and tomorrow. Here are some quick FAQ to help plan your evening out:

1) Can't make it down to DTE Energy's Beacon Park? Watch the livestream! https://boxcast.tv/channel/the-scene-with-nat-morris-and-friends-at-dlectricity-176656 (It's good people watching!)

2) There is no cost to attend The Scene! It's free and open to the public. You are allowed to bring a chair and sit on the lawn and watch the action!

3) We will always try to get as many people on the dance floor as possible while trying to keep it safe. Don't worry about registering in advance for The Scene -- just show up and you will get your time to shine on the stage!

presents “Shadow Machines” by Layne Hinton, a projection installation of delicate, crisp shadows of a small mesh sculpture. Building on old magic lanterns and other 17th-century projector technologies, these apparatuses present viewers with a duet of cinematic projections created without film.

As the focal lens shifts slowly forwards and backwards, the projected image appears to turn the small sculpture almost inside out. The visual illusion of shifting focus through an object leaves us unable to decipher the difference between the inside and the outside of the sculpture. Shadow Machines creates cinema out of the basic elements of light, time and space, without any film or moving images. See it projected outside the Detroit Institute of Arts TONIGHT and tomorrow at DLECTRICITY!
