What does baking soda have to do with fire safety? More than you might think.

Mi-Sci stopped by CBS Detroit to share a quick kitchen safety demo showing how baking soda can help extinguish a small grease fire by smothering the flames and cutting off oxygen.

It’s part of Science of Safety, sponsored by Bank of America, a season of hands-on programs exploring the science behind everyday safety and the STEM that helps first responders do their work.

This summer, Detroit first responders and up to four guests can also receive free general admission to Mi-Sci.

Explore the science of safety with us. Plan your visit at mi-sci.org.
