Yesterday the Governor of Nebraska has rescinded the executive order removing authority from fire chiefs to issue burn permits that will temporarily lift the always in place burn ban. Diller Fire will start issuing burn permits for our district on Friday, April 3rd.

As a reminder, the State of Nebraska is always under a burn ban. The Fire Chief or designated person for the fire department can temporarily lift that ban by issuing a burn permit. When you obtain that permit, you sign on the line stating you will be personally responsible for anything that happens as a result of your burn. Anyone who burns outside of their plan can be financially responsible for any damages, and if anyone burns without a permit, they can and will be issued a citation for a Class IV misdemeanor.

We will be keeping a close eye on the weather conditions in the future and may issue another burn ban if conditions start to get dry again. Please exercise caution when doing burns, as there is still a heavy fuel load out there and things can still get out of control easily.
