Dr. Walt Starr, from Starkville, Mississippi, beat exceptionally tough non-resident desert sheep draw odds last fall when his name was pulled for a tag in the Kaparowitz East Unit of Utah.

After speaking to a good friend who recommended calling Randy Johnson of High Desert Wild Sheep Guides, it didn’t take long before Walt was booked and counting down the days to his hunt.

It was decided to make the trip during the first seven days of the season opener in September. This part of the state has some spectacular views, but it's big, steep country, and with soaring temperatures, it would prove to be a tough hunt.

After spending lots of time behind glass and picking through several groups of sheep, the team finally found a heavy, old ram to pursue. Set up at 400 yards, Dr. Starr proved he had put in the work, making the shot look easy on his once-in-a-lifetime ram!
