Since our 2021 season is quickly approaching thought we’d do this Valley Farm Friday all about tomatoes!! 😊🍅 California produces more than 95% of the nations processed tomatoes and about one-third of the worlds crop!
We started hauling tomatoes back in the 1970’s and as you can see in this first photo things looked a little different. Tomatoes were hauled in separate wooden bins! Does anyone remember these?! Back in the 1970’s California processed between 3.4-6.5 million tons of tomatoes per year.
Fast forward to now, 2021, tomatoes are hauled in 2 big fiberglass bins. Holding approximately 26-28 tons per truck load! California now processes 11.3 million tons of tomatoes each year as stats show for 2020.
