Surry County 4-H

Our final day of 4-H Congress was a long one! We started out the morning by going on tours around NC State and the Raleigh area. Alyna and I both went to the NC Museum of Natural Science. We all met back up at the dining hall for lunch, before our afternoon workshops. Our county delegates participated in the election for the new 4-H State Council members. After getting all dressed up, we enjoyed the Clover Gala dinner and dance. We ended the day at the Candle Lighting Ceremony, where the new officers are installed and all of the 4-Hers stand in the shape of the 4-H Clover as their candles are lit by passing the light from one to another. We have had a fun and busy week, but we are ready to head back home today! 🍀🦥🦋🗳️💃🕯️

Day 1 of 4-H Congress is in the books! Opening Ceremony and the Honor Club Tapping Ceremony were held last night. The delegates made clips with positive messages which they will share with others throughout the week.

Alyna Rutt represented Surry County at 4-H Electric Congress on the campus of Appalachian State University this week. She was able to discover how electricity and technology advances are changing for many careers. The delegates also had some fun by attending The Horn in the West outdoor drama and tubing down the river! The delegates demonstrated Hands to Service by presenting fans and a monetary donation to a local nonprofit, Hospitality House, which will be distributed to those in the area in need. Do you have laying hens?🐣🥚

Youth who raise chickens are encouraged to participate in the Egg-cellent Egg competition. Youth submit half a dozen eggs of the same color and size for exterior and interior judging, along with a supplemental educational activity. The deadline to register is July 31st.
