Five Axis Friday! This morning, we machined a small aluminum pipe spool part on the 5th axis. We machined the faces, thru bore and the mounting holes on either side first. Then mounted the part to an arbor in the lathe and did the outer groove feature. All that's left now is to box up the part and ship it to the customer.

We finished up machining all of these bearing housings yesterday. It took just 2 operations total utilizing the 5th axis so we could reach all the side features at once. We were able to get them painted by the end of the day so when we came in this morning the paint would be dry, and they would be ready for assembly.

For this little project, we used the Keyence IM to reverse engineer some brackets for our friends over at Primarch Racing. Primarch needed the brackets to be longer, so we added length to the back end of the bracket and increased the adjustability by making the mounting slots longer. After getting the brackets measured and drawn up, we loaded them in the Haas VF2 to machine the mounting slots and triangle cutouts which aid in keeping the weight down.
