Enterprise Joins Tax-Free Shopping Weekend

ENTERPRISE — According to the City of Enterprise, shoppers will have the opportunity to save on back-to-school purchases during Alabama's 2026 Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday.

The tax-free weekend begins at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, July 17, and continues through midnight on Sunday, July 19.

According to the city, eligible school-related purchases will be exempt from both Alabama's state sales tax and the City of Enterprise's municipal sales tax during the three-day event.

The Enterprise City Council approved participation in the sales tax holiday during its Feb. 3 meeting, allowing shoppers to receive the local tax exemption under the same terms and conditions established by the State of Alabama.

According to the city, qualifying purchases include clothing priced at $156 or less per item, such as shoes, school uniforms, pajamas, diapers, jeans and underwear. Clothing accessories, protective equipment, and sports or recreational equipment are not eligible.

Computers, computer software and school computer supplies priced at $1,173 or less also qualify. Eligible items include computers, printers, printer ink and printer paper.

School supplies and textbooks are also included in the exemption. Examples include binders, calculators, composition books, crayons, glue, lunch boxes, notebooks, pencils and scissors.

According to the city, the examples are not all-inclusive, and additional qualifying items may also be eligible for the sales tax exemption.

Dothan Salvation Army Seeks Food Pantry Donations

DOTHAN, Ala. — According to the Dothan Salvation Army, the organization's food pantry is seeking donations of non-perishable food items to help serve families and individuals in need across the Wiregrass.

Needed items include canned soup, canned vegetables, canned fruit, pasta, rice, peanut butter, cereal, and other shelf-stable food products.

According to the Salvation Army, every donation helps provide meals and support to neighbors facing difficult times. Community members are encouraged to contribute to help ensure no one in the area goes hungry.
