January brrrr ❄️ Peak soup-weather comfort. The children brought so much joy to their recent food prep work. Wishing everyone something warm and cozy in this cold weather!

As we enter this season of Thanksgiving, all of us at DMS find ourselves especially mindful of the gratitude we hold for the children and families we serve.

At our school, we intentionally set aside the cutesy crafts and surface-level themes that often surround this holiday. Instead, we focus on authentic experiences and genuine expressions of thankfulness. Our long-held tradition of reading Stone Soup and preparing our own version together centers our feast on generosity and community.

Every child in the school spent time this week preparing food and carefully chopping vegetables, contributing meaningful service toward feeding others. The soup they prepared became the heart of our family feast and nourished our community today.

We are relentlessly committed to honoring and protecting childhood—keeping it real, meaningful, and unhurried. The photos and videos here show children in the days leading up to our celebration, preparing for the feast while also staying rooted in the purposeful work that guides our days. November has settled in, and with it a comfortable, steady rhythm in the classroom: a sense of knowing, belonging, and peaceful productivity.

At the feast, children sang for and with their families, and together our community supported the Wiregrass Food Bank with generous donations.

Wishing all of our DMS families, and our wider community, a warm and joyful Thanksgiving. 🧡

Our children are embracing the fall season with falling leaves, cooler mornings, and... apple pie! After reading The Apple Pie Tree by Zoe Hall, the children made their own mini pies. They sampled Granny Smith, Red Delicious, and Cosmic Crisp apples and then got to work washing, cutting, rolling dough, and adding butter and cinnamon. It was a simple, cozy fall experience- just one of the many ways our classrooms support joyful exploration and children's competence every day.
