We have a rotating random selection of book titles in the gumball machine now set up at the shop.

You might get a suggestion of a book of poetry, fiction, nonfiction, a kids or young adult book, a cookbook, fantasy, memoir, nature writing, and more.

And as an added bonus for taking a chance you get 10% off a book!

Here’s how it works:
📚Grab a quarter (we have change at the front desk), insert and turn the dial to try your luck!
📖All revenue from the book gumball machine is donated to local orgs.
📚If you like the suggestion, head out on a mission to find it in the shop (feel free to ask staff).
📖If you look and can’t find it, you are welcome to use the discount on a different book the same day.
📚If you are not interested in the title feel free to use the 10% off on any title or try another quarter to see what the next slip suggests.
📖Once you’re ready, bring the slip, ball, and book(s) to the counter - the slip is your coupon and we reuse the cases!

The Fine Print
✔️There is a chance we’re sold out of the title you get - if so, we can order it for you and you still get the discount (you’ll just have to wait a week or two for the book to arrive). Just let staff know you’d like it ordered - you can pay now or at pick up.
✔️Each discount is good while in the shop during that visit only (not a later stop in, online, or transferable).
✔️Each slip/ discount can only be applied to one book (not whole order).
✔️You are welcome to try for multiple suggestions (multiple quarters) and use unique slips / discounts on more than one book.
