At LoopRoots Foundation, we’re proud to spotlight the talented people helping bring our mission to life.
Today, we’re introducing Megan, one of our dedicated Curriculum & Education Specialists. Through her expertise in curriculum development, online learning, and professional training, Megan helps create educational resources that empower individuals, strengthen communities, and support meaningful change.
With over 20 years of experience in post-secondary education and professional training delivery, Megan brings extensive knowledge in curriculum management, course development, and asynchronous e-learning. Her areas of expertise include criminal justice reform, behavioral health initiatives, juvenile justice, and Constitutional law. She is also a passionate advocate for due process protections and self-empowerment through education.

Thank you Joshua Toney of The Prison for Humanity

📌I spent ten years in federal prison, and after I got home I started working on something I call The Prison Humanity Project. The whole idea behind it is pretty simple. I want to make coming home a little less confusing than it was for me.
Over the last several months I’ve been putting together free resources for people getting out, along with a much larger 600-page state-by-state reentry guide. I got tired of seeing people who genuinely wanted to do better but didn’t know where to find the information they needed.
I don’t claim to have all the answers, but I know what it’s like to walk out of prison and have to figure life out one piece at a time. If you’re looking to talk with somebody who’s lived that and is trying to do something useful with it now, I’d be glad to visit with you.
Either way, I appreciate you taking the time to hear people’s stories. I think those conversations matter.

Millions of children have a parent behind bars. Family connections matter.
When a parent is incarcerated, families often face emotional, financial, and social challenges. Research shows that children with incarcerated parents are at greater risk of anxiety, depression, behavioral problems, academic difficulties, and economic hardship. Many families also experience housing instability and the loss of an important caregiver. Maintaining healthy family connections during incarceration can help reduce these negative impacts and support children’s well-being.
