As part of Theater Thursdays: Double Feature, we conclude our July screenings with a film that explores conformity, curiosity, and the transformative power of questioning the world around us. Through fantasy and satire, this story reflects on how personal growth often begins when familiar assumptions are challenged.
Pleasantville follows two teenagers transported into an idyllic 1950s television sitcom, where every day unfolds according to rigid rules and predictable routines. As the town begins to transform, the film examines how curiosity, self expression, and empathy disrupt systems built on fear, conformity, and exclusion. Blending fantasy with social commentary, it asks what is gained when people begin to see the world in new ways.

As part of Theater Thursdays: International Cinémathèque, we continue our screenings with a film that explores identity, exile, and the struggle to remain true to oneself amid political upheaval and social change. Told with humor, honesty, and striking visual simplicity, this story reflects on growing up between cultures and carrying one's history across borders.
Persepolis follows a young girl coming of age during and after the Iranian Revolution as she navigates family, rebellion, war, and self discovery. Through its distinctive black and white animation, the film offers an intimate perspective on life under authoritarianism while celebrating resilience, individuality, and the enduring power of memory.
