Never did I ever...
Think I'd meet someone who knew George Lee as a child in Shanghai!
But thanks to six degrees of separation and a connection made by Graham Lustig, artistic director of the Oakland Ballet, I had the pleasure of meeting Blossom Lawlor.
She was born in February 1935, three days before George Lee!
When both were six, they danced for the same Shanghai studio, run by an English woman.
George and Blossom performed the Grasshopper dance! George was a violin-playing grasshopper. Blossom's in the middle en pointe.
Blossom brought this photo with her when we met in Vancouver.
With her were HD Lee, whose mother was part of the famous Goh family of dancers and a ballerina with Blossom in Singapore.
If only George had met Blossom...but I hope he's smiling from above!

One night last week, 3,507 people gathered around their computers to watch TEN TIMES BETTER, thanks to AARP’s Movies for Grown-ups streaming service.
Truth be told, I'd rather share the film in person. But with the virtual screening, when it was over, all the comments came pouring in like a waterfall!
It was overwhelming to see the impact of George Lee’s story on so many people. Thank you to for this opportunity to share our story with your members.
