Crazy is Doing the Same Thing and Expecting Different Results
Healthcare costs keep rising — but here’s the truth: the underlying costs of healthcare have been flat for the past 10 years. So why are you still seeing 5–8% (or higher) renewal hikes every year?
👉 Status quo brokers thrive on fear, uncertainty, and doubt. They steer you toward carrier-controlled fully insured plans that benefit them — not you.
👉 High-performance health plans reduce health plan costs by 20–40% in the first year alone.
The key is to shift from a carrier-controlled plan to a level-funded or self-funded plan — but not without a strategy:
✅ Access your full medical and pharmacy claims data
✅ Develop a 3-year benefits strategy (like any other P&L line item)
✅ Partner with an advisor who is transparent about their compensation
💡 Self-funding gives you control — but only if you have the right foundation and guidance. Without it, you’re leaving yourself exposed to risk and missing out on significant savings.
It’s time to stop doing the same thing and expecting different results.

Is Your Broker Costing Your Business?
Most businesses treat benefits brokers like a buyer’s agent — someone working in your best interest. But the truth is, many brokers are paid by the carriers they’re recommending, not by you. This creates a conflict of interest that could be costing your business more than you realize.
🔍 Here’s why it matters:
Many brokers receive undisclosed bonuses from carriers and PBMs (pharmacy benefit managers) based on retention or growth — even if the plans they recommend aren’t the best for you.
This can result in higher costs and lower-quality benefits for your employees.
💡 How to protect your business:
✅ Demand full disclosure – Ask your broker to complete a compensation disclosure form and disclose all conflicts of interest before you make decisions (not after).
✅ Pay your broker directly – Strip out commissions and pay them via a flat fee or PEPM (per employee per month) model. A truly aligned advisor will deliver far more value than the fee they charge.
✅ Work with the right expertise – Most brokers are good at sales, but you need someone with deep healthcare knowledge and experience with direct contracting, reference-based pricing, and other cost-saving strategies.
At Alpine Peak Benefits, we abide by a strict code of ethics, and focus on delivering better benefits at a lower cost. If you want to take control of your healthcare costs, let’s talk.

Jen Fielding is wonderful to work with. She is very knowledgeable and helpful. She navigates the insurance arena for me and helps enroll me every year. With the new insurance reduction in cost, I had it on my list of things to do, but Jenni actually reached out to me to get reenrolled at the reduced price.
