Becoming a Planetary Steward 06/03/2026

We talk a lot about leadership impact in business, but not nearly enough about leadership impact on the planet.

Really proud that Leadership Circle continues to hold “stewarding the planet” as part of the mission...not as a side initiative, but as part of what conscious leadership actually means. 🌎

This piece is a good reminder that sustainability isn’t just operational. It’s deeply tied to mindset, responsibility, and the choices leaders make every day.

Many leaders are known for being supportive, collaborative, and easy to work with. They step up when help is needed. They avoid unnecessary conflict. They work hard to keep relationships strong.

Those qualities matter.

But when the need for approval, acceptance, or affirmation becomes the primary driver of our behavior, leadership can become less about what is most needed—and more about what will keep everyone comfortable.

Our latest blog post explores 𝗣𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴—the Reactive Tendency that reflects the extent to which a leader seeks approval from others to feel safe, valued, or successful.

Inside the post, we explore:

✨ Why Pleasing often hides behind strengths like empathy, collaboration, and helpfulness
⚖️ The difference between genuine care and managing for approval
📉 What the research reveals about Pleasing and leadership effectiveness
🧭 How leaders move from seeking validation to leading from internal authority
💬 The role of Courageous Authenticity in navigating conflict and difficult conversations
🛠️ Practical practices and reflection prompts to support growth
📚 Recommended resources for going deeper

The goal isn't to become less caring, less relational, or less collaborative.

It's learning how to stay connected to others without losing connection to yourself.

If you've ever found yourself saying yes when you wanted to say no, holding back a perspective to avoid tension, or measuring your success by whether everyone is happy with you, this post may offer a useful mirror—and a path forward.
