The Great Blue Heron

Standing over 4 feet tall with a wingspan reaching nearly 7 feet, the Great Blue Heron is North America's largest heron. Despite its size, it weighs only about 5 pounds.
A master of patience, it can stand motionless for minutes before striking with incredible speed to catch fish, frogs, crayfish, snakes, and other prey. In flight, its neck folds into a distinctive "S" shape, unlike cranes, which fly with their necks extended.
Around Duluth, these elegant birds are a familiar sight along the St. Louis River Estuary, quiet bays, and marshes throughout the summer.

Bucket list shot ✔️:
Adrenaline was maxed as I waited for this moment! The U.S. Navy Blue Angels flying directly over the Duluth aerial lift bridge! They came down the shoreline, banked directly down Lake Ave and then over the bridge! The Angels departed today for Milwaukee, WI.
