Delivering Safer Solutions—Globally

MuniRem® Environmental recently returned to Southeast Asia to support our trusted partner, Dyno Nobel Indonesia, in the safe disposal of bulk explosives and the decontamination of equipment and an underground sump.

Led by Chemical Engineer and Project Manager Spencer Nzengung, our team successfully applied MuniRem’s patented, non-thermal remediation technology. We were honored to have our CEO and CTO, Dr. Valentine Nzengung, provide hands-on training and onsite guidance to ensure project success.

We're grateful for our continued collaboration with the Dyno Nobel team—both in the U.S. and internationally—as we work together to advance safer, more sustainable solutions for explosive waste remediation.

♻️DEFEA 2025 in Athens, Greece:

At DEFEA 2025, MuniRem and its European partner, Polyeco, showcased the proven capabilities of MuniRem® technology for the defense sector. The exhibit highlighted how MuniRem® provides a safe, effective, and flexible alternative to the open burning and open detonation (OB/OD) of hazardous energetic wastes—offering a sustainable solution for defense manufacturers.

MuniRem® Environmental Successfully Neutralizes Explosive Organic Peroxides! ✅

MuniRem® Environmental’s expertise extends beyond the chemical destruction of civil and military explosives and chemical warfare agents. Just two weeks ago, we swiftly responded to a critical request from a client requiring the safe neutralization of highly unstable organic peroxides containing Triacetone Triperoxide (TATP). These unstable compounds, known for their extreme sensitivity to heat, shock, friction, and contamination, pose a significant explosive hazard. Additionally, their decomposition releases oxygen, which can intensify fires and lead to catastrophic explosions if not properly managed.

The hazardous materials, including potential TATP, diacetone diperoxide (DADP), and hexamethylene triperoxide diamine (HMTD), were stored in multiple five-gallon and one-gallon containers, with one already having detonated. Upon assessment, our team identified peroxide crystals floating in solution and clinging to the container walls, indicating the heightened risk of spontaneous detonation.

Using our proprietary aqueous MuniRem® reagent, we safely recovered, breached, and neutralized the explosive organic peroxides, effectively eliminating the threat. The process resulted in just one and a half 55-gallon drums of investigator-derived waste (IDW), which our client will characterize and dispose of in compliance with RCRA regulations. Since MuniRem® reagents fully destroy explosive peroxides, converting them into harmless byproducts, the resulting waste will be classified as non-hazardous—eliminating additional risk and costly hazardous waste disposal requirements.

At MuniRem Environmental, we take pride in delivering field-proven, rapid-response solutions for the neutralization and disposal of dangerous energetics. Whether addressing military stockpiles, industrial hazards, or emergency disposal needs, our portable, non-thermal, and environmentally responsible technology ensures safe and effective decontamination wherever and whenever it’s needed.

At the invitation of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in New York, Professor Valentine Nzengung, on December 10, 2024, provided a briefing on the application of MuniRem technology as a safe and portable versatile solution to support ongoing global efforts to clean up explosive remnants of wars.

Dr. Nzengung’s briefing focused on the application of MuniRem as a green and mature alternative to the disposal of munitions and explosives by open burning and open detonation. Specifically, Dr. Nzengung discussed the many applications of MuniRem products to neutralize unstable explosives, chemical destruction of bomb fillers (recovered bulk explosives), demilitarization of small arms, and rapid cleanup of explosives in different materials (e.g., soil, water, demilitarization equipment, storage magazines, etc.).

In keeping with MuniRem Environmental’s mission to expand the application of its MuniRem technology to protect humanity from the hazards of explosives, our dedicated team of scientists and UXO Technicians are supporting the global commercial and military explosive industry.
