On this day, April 13, in 1951, the Beta Pi Sigma/Durham Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was chartered by these 11 beautiful sorors. Today, this Monday evening at 7:00 pm, the Durham County Board of Commissioners will read a resolution in honor of my chapter’s 75th-year charter anniversary. What a momentous occasion to have served the Durham community for 75 years.

This Sunday is the beginning of Women’s History Month and on Saturday, March 7 at the Durham County Library, I will be facilitating a discussion with best-selling author and reporter Abigail Leonard. We will be discussing her book Four Mothers: An Intimate Journey Through the First Year of Parenthood in Four Countries. This is a partnership with Durham County Library, the Durham County Women’s Commission
and Sister Cities of Durham, NC and Early Years. The program will start at 1:30pm with a resource fair following afterwards.

Today I had breakfast with my newest Durham County constituent, Mark Jewell! I introduced him to Guglhupf Bakery and Beer Garden and we discussed all things Durham to get him acclimated to his new home. Welcome to the Bull City, Mark!

I am a big supporter of the NAACP and am sharing this information as a public service announcement. If you are in Durham County and want to learn more about the candidates running for DPS school board, Durham County District Attorney, Durham County Sheriff, U.S. Congress and NC Senate, come to Mt. Vernon Baptist Church on Sunday, January 11 starting at 2:00 pm to hear about their campaigns and what they want to accomplish for the people of Durham County.

Today was the City of Durham Holiday Parade. It was a fun time to be had. I always enjoy seeing so many Durham residents and friends coming out to celebrate the winter holidays.

I love meeting my Sorors when I am out and about doing my County Commissioner work.

While at the Novartis ground breaking Thursday, I saw this well dressed lady with blue and gold on. I said she must be a Sigma Gamma Rho.

After the event was over, I walked over to her and sure enough, I met a new Soror!

I am glad we met Soror Marva Hinton! You looked so sharp with your royal blue and gold suit.

On this past Friday, I had the pleasure of serving on a panel with Durham City Council Member Chelsea Cook. We
meet with Duke Graduate Students about the difference between Durham City and Durham County Governments and how both entities work together to make things happen for our residents in Durham. It was a great discussion and l look forward to having further discussions with Duke students on how they can support Durham.
