As parents, we know the burden this places on us when we need to find childcare for all of these days.

We’ve all been there. Someone tells you about a school or you’re moving and you start researching the zoned school for the house you’re interested in. You go to Niche, you read reviews, you look at test scores, and then you find your way to Reddit or Facebook groups to see what others are seeing.

And I know what you find- conflicting information. You’ve got one person who says this school is amazing and they wouldn’t send their kids anywhere else and then you’ve got someone who tells you to avoid this school at all costs.

😩 Now cue the overwhelm.

This goes back to my soapbox you’ll hear me repeat again and again: what is right for one person doesn’t mean it will be right for you. Say your neighbor raves about the base school but you go and tour and you leave feeling disappointed and uninspired. Does this mean it’s a bad school? A good school? No. Because these things are very rarely as clean cut as that.

So it’s time to get crystal clear on what matters to YOU and what YOUR child needs. And that’s why I’m here. To walk alongside you through the process, to help you discover the things that your family needs and to understand exactly which schools are going to deliver that for you.

In a recent YouTube interview, I was asked if I ever look at school ratings. And yes, I do. But likely not in the same way that you look at them.

I’m always interested to see what schools made the list and how they compare to the things that I know about these individual schools in Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill. Sometimes the rating makes sense and sometimes I am stumped.

Because test scores and metrics are only one piece of the puzzle. Chances are, you care a lot about aspects of a school that aren’t on a standardized test (like teacher satisfaction and turnover, PTA involvement, special education services, extracurricular offerings, and more.
