Durham Glass

Glassmaking requires high temperatures, usually more than 3,200 degrees Fahrenheit. That requires a lot of fuel, and a number of different fuels like wood, coal, and natural gas, have been popular in the glassmaking trade over the centuries.

In the late 1700s, British manufacturers began polishing plate glass for use as window panes. By 1834, technology advancements meant windows in carriages and homes featured larger panes of glass, and by 1903, an early form of laminated safety glass was invented.
