ISLA takes pride in celebrating the educational journey of ISLA alumna and current teaching assistant, Ximena. After graduating from Durham Tech with an Associate of Arts in Business, Ximena has been accepted to the UNC Chapel Hill School of Economics — a tremendous milestone! Her plans include securing an internship while pursuing her degree, with a focus on exploring diverse business opportunities. ISLA has played a meaningful role in connecting Ximena to her community and to her heritage language — two things she felt were missing from her life before joining ISLA.

Tras graduarse de Durham Tech con un Asociado en Artes en Negocios, Ximena ha sido aceptada en la Escuela de Economía de UNC Chapel Hill — ¡un logro extraordinario! Sus planes incluyen conseguir una pasantía mientras cursa su carrera universitaria, con un enfoque en explorar diversas oportunidades en el mundo de los negocios. ISLA ha jugado un papel significativo en conectar a Ximena con su comunidad y con su lengua de herencia — dos cosas que ella sentía que le faltaban en su vida antes de unirse a ISLA

What a day at ISLA
Our students had an incredible STEM Day—expanding their science vocabulary in Spanish while diving into hands-on learning across science, technology, engineering, and math.
Each classroom rotated through interactive STEM stations led by our amazing 9–12th grade students, who partnered with our younger learners to explore, create, and discover together.
