Good morning, Durham. Please drive carefully today, as heavy rain and the potential for severe weather could create hazardous conditions in our area. A flood watch remains in effect for all of central NC through tonight, and the risk for heavy rainfall will continue across much of the region today and possibly into the evening. More information below ⬇

Heavy rain and possibly some severe weather pose a risk to central NC. Here are some key points:
1) A Flood Watch remains in effect for all of central NC through tonight. 2) The risk for heavy rainfall will continue across much of central NC today and possibly into tonight, as a couple of slow moving fronts move across the region. 3) Continuous rounds of showers and storms through the day will produce 2 to 4 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts of 6+ inches (mainly across the Triangle area). 4) Scattered instances of flash flooding will be possible, with the greatest risk over the northeast Piedmont and northern and central Coastal Plain, including in the Triangle.

Wearing sun protection isn’t just for long days at the beach. Anytime you are outdoors, your skin is on the front lines. Even on cloudy days, Ultraviolet (UV) rays can reach unprotected skin and cause long‑lasting damage.

In addition to applying sunscreen generously and reapplying often, staying safe from the sun is simple:
• Wear protective clothing. Lightweight long sleeves, wide‑brimmed hats, and UV‑blocking sunglasses offer important protection.
• Seek shade whenever possible.

And don’t forget to stay hydrated. Your skin needs moisture to stay healthy and resilient.
