Why is creative play important for children? Creative play is a vital part of childhood and child development. Through creative and imaginative play children can grow emotionally, socially, intellectually, and even physically. Creative experiences help a child develop these skills and enable them to share their thoughts, feelings and ideas. Researchers say that creative pursuits such as drawing, painting, and sculpting help to build connections in the brain to strengthen cognitive reserve, or brain resilience, and subsequently prevent memory loss. Creating artwork can also improve fine motor skills through small, purposeful movements, which may help to prevent pain and stiffness.
Why is drawing important? We use our brains when we draw, and this not only releases endorphins, but helps build new connections and pathways. When drawing, we actively use both sides of our brain, the right for creativity, and the left for logical thinking. This strengthens both and helps develop the ability to focus and think strategically.

Group art to create a message, for problem-solving, play, and healing!
Collaboration is the art of merging two or more creative minds to create something...on paper or canvas, with clay, metal, wood, or sand....with recycled materials or items you found on a hike! When we create toegether, the focus is primarily on the process. Artist-participants experiment, take chances, and the outcome is typically unexpected.
As a creative arts practitioner, I want to work in diverse settings...at outdoor camps for children and youth, women’s retreats, nature centers, music festivals and after-school programs. If you’re an administrator of a schools or a non-profits or director of a retreat center, we’ll meet in advance to determine the materials, size, location and setting as well as the purpose of the activity.
