❗️July 4th Safety Week- Grill Safety❗️
As July 4th approaches, outdoor grilling is a very common activity. For Monday's July 4th Safety Week, lets take a look a some general safety reminders as well as specific grill safety considerations!
Grilling Safety Reminders:
1. Grill outdoors only! Never grill inside a garage or under an overhang.
2. Keep your grill at least 3 ft away from your home, deck, and anything that could burn.
3. Keep children and pets at least 3 ft away from the grilling area.
4. Never leave a grill unattended!
5. Clean your grill regularly to prevent grease fires.
6. Always open the lid before lighting a propane grill.
Using Propane Grills:
- Check the hose for leaks with a soap-and-water solution before grilling.
- If you smell gas, turn off the grill if it's safe to do so, move away from the area, and call the fire department if the leak continues.
Using Charcoal Grills:
- Use only charcoal starter fluid.
- Never add starter fluid to hot coals.
- Allow coals to cool completely before disposing of them in a metal container.
The month of July is the busiest month for grill fires, and nearly half of all grilling injuries are burns. By taking a few extra minutes of preparation can help ensure the safety of you and the others around you!
