Remembering Nicky Hayden: 8 Years On
Today marks eight years since the tragic passing of Nicky Hayden, the 2006 MotoGP World Champion, who died on May 22, 2017, at the age of 35 following a cycling accident in Italy . 
Nicknamed “The Kentucky Kid,” Hayden began his racing career on dirt tracks before transitioning to road racing. He clinched the AMA Superbike Championship in 2002, becoming the youngest rider to do so, which led to his move to MotoGP with Repsol Honda in 2003 . 
Hayden’s most notable achievement came in 2006 when he secured the MotoGP World Championship in a dramatic final race at Valencia, narrowly defeating Valentino Rossi . 
Beyond his on-track success, Hayden was revered for his humility, work ethic, and sportsmanship. His legacy continues to inspire riders worldwide, and he remains the most recent American to win a MotoGP title.
In honor of his contributions to the sport, the AMA Horizon Award was renamed the Nicky Hayden AMA Horizon Award in 2017 . 

Today, we remember Nicky Hayden not only as a champion but as a beloved figure whose spirit and dedication left an indelible mark on the world of motorcycle racing.

A little redneck ingenuity. A $50 Harbor freight set of hand trucks, a couple of old motorcycle axels welded to some square tubing and good friend Kevin Ellis machined a plastic sleeve for the rear wheel and we have a redneck pit cart!😂🇺🇸🏁
