REMOTE OR IN-PERSON INTERNSHIP AT US DEPT OF JUSTICE: The Department of Justice’s Consumer Protection Branch (CPB) is responsible for the enforcement of most of the federal statutes that protect consumers from deceptive, unfair, or fraudulent practices. Many of these laws provide for both civil and criminal penalties. CPB also defends the federal government in suits that challenge the policies of consumer protection agencies. Each semester we offer a few unpaid internships for undergraduate students in their junior or senior year, who are interested in pursuing a career in the law. The responsibilities of an intern include a wide range of duties in support of our Branch’s attorneys and paralegals. Some intern projects include conducting factual research for the Branch’s cases, reviewing documents to identify evidence of fraudulent activity or victims of fraud, and summarizing transcripts and other court records. In addition, the Branch& #39;s attorneys give weekly brown-bag lunch presentations, so the interns can learn about particular cases or investigations. Interns at the Consumer Protection Branch are exposed to a variety of legal procedures, case investigative techniques, and agency interrelationships. As such, interns who work at CPB can expect to have an experience that is both productive and educational. We seek candidates who are in their junior or senior year of undergraduate academic study and can work part-time in the spring (20-24 hours/week minimum). Applicants should have a GPA of 3.3 or higher and show how they have demonstrated their interest in the law through extra-curricular activities. LENGTH OF INTERNSHIP: January 30 to April 19, 2024. REQUIREMENTS: Criminal Background Check and U.S. Citizenship Required. Junior or Senior Year Status in Academic Program. APPLICATION DEADLINE: November 3, 2023. INTERNSHIP STATUS: Optional: Remote or In-Person. TO APPLY: Please send a cover letter, resume, and unofficial transcript (all together in one pdf) to Intern Coordinator Lisa Mitzelfeld. [email protected] *In your cover letter, you should articulate why you are specifically interested in the work at CPB. WEBSITE: http://www.justice.gov/civil/consumer-protection-branch.
