The Gut Health and Thyroid Connection

You might not automatically think that your digestive health has anything to do with your Thyroid, but they are more intricately linked than you might think.

The Gut (and liver) is where the body converts T4 (inactive) thyroid hormone into the active T3 thyroid hormone that the body is able to actually use to carry out the functions of the thyroid.

When the gut, and particularly the microbiome is off, it can actually contribute to lowering thyroid function.

This is why gut health, diet and digestion are SO important to work on in the course of healing thyroid imbalances.

My Top Tips for Gut Health:

1 – Reduce Stress

2 – Get Enough Sleep

3 – Check for Food Intolerances
keep a detailed food diary and note how you feel after eating, notice patterns or ingredients that may be impacting your wellness.

4 – Get the right prebiotic or probiotic for you.
Talk to your doctor about what your unique body needs to help support your Microbiome

5 – Stay hydrated
We hear it all the time, right? But most people still don't drink enough water. (I struggle with it too!) Drinking WATER, not tea, coffee, or other fluids really is unbelievably important for the entire body, but in particular gut health and digestion.
