Fish and Wildlife Officers Munn, Libbing, Tank and Sergeant Kim conducted boat patrols for the Edmonds coho Derby this weekend. Within 90 minutes of the start of their patrols, the two patrol boats had seized 16 unlawful salmon. The Officers seized four more unlawful salmon the remainder of the patrol. Forty-six vessels were contacted, and 31 tickets were issued, 20 salmon were seized, and many warnings issued. Violations included 1st degree over limit, 2nd degree over limit, possession of Chinook salmon, possession of wild coho in Marine Area 9, fishing with barbed hooks, and fail to record salmon. All 20 seized salmon were donated to the program Salmon for Soldiers.

Fish and Wildlife Officers would like to remind fishers that retention of wild coho is currently unlawful in Marine Area 9 and if a wild coho is caught and retained in Marine Area 10 or Marine Area 8-2 (legal to retain one wild coho in those Marine Area’s), the fisher cannot fish in Marine Area 9 with that wild coho on board the vessel. The fisher may transit through Marine Area 9 but may not stop to fish in Marine Area 9 with the wild coho on board the vessel.
