Cosmetic Management of Cesarean Section Delivery and Postpartum Care
Optimizing Healing, Function, and Long-Term Abdominal Aesthetics
#1 of 10: Type of Incision
The three most common skin incisions used for Cesarean section delivery are the Pfannenstiel, Joel-Cohen, and midline vertical incisions.
While each incision has specific surgical advantages, they may result in scars that remain visible when wearing low-rise clothing, swimwear, or certain bikini styles.
As an alternative, Dr. Julio Cesar Novoa utilizes the Micro-Brazilian Incision (MBI), a low transverse cosmetic Cesarean section incision designed to maximize concealment within the natural bikini line.
The MBI is created by gently elevating the lower abdominal skin over the mons p***s while making a short, curved horizontal incision approximately 2 centimeters above the v***a.
This approach allows the final scar to be positioned lower on the abdomen than a traditional Pfannenstiel incision whenever patient anatomy safely permits.
The incision is intentionally placed low enough to remain concealed beneath most underwear, swimwear, and even Brazilian-style thong garments.
The Micro-Brazilian Incision is typically shorter than a traditional Pfannenstiel incision and is designed to follow the natural contours of the lower abdomen.
The goal is to produce a scar that is thin, low, soft, mobile, and less noticeable over time.
The term "Micro-Brazilian" reflects the objective of creating a scar that remains hidden even when wearing highly revealing swimwear or undergarments.
When combined with meticulous multilayer closure, proper scar management, postpartum abdominal support, and maintenance of a healthy body weight, the Micro-Brazilian Incision may contribute to improved long-term cosmetic outcomes and patient satisfaction.
