Step back in time! 🤠 Calico Ghost Town is a historic silver mining town in California’s Mojave Desert, founded in 1881. Once booming with over 500 mines, it was abandoned in the 1890s when silver prices collapsed. In the 1950s, Walter Knott restored much of the town, preserving its Old West character. Today, visitors can stroll through preserved and recreated buildings, explore the Maggie Mine — one of the original silver mines — and ride the narrow-gauge Calico & Odessa Railroad for views of the desert landscape. The town offers ghost tours, historic exhibits, souvenir shops, and a few spots to grab classic Western-style food. Hiking trails weave through the rugged hills, dotted with old mining equipment and scenic overlooks.
