As a result of you all supporting our fundraising efforts throughout this year, we are excited to add this new piece of equipment into service on our Rescue truck, the Emergency Plug.

With traditional vehicles, if we needed to ensure that a vehicle was completely shut off at an incident, we'd easily access the batteries under the hood and disconnect them. However, due to the increase in EV vehicles throughout our area, it's only a matter of time before we get dispatched to an incident involving an EV Vehicle where we need to disable the battery (motor) to ensure that the scene is safe for the first responders & patients, but where would we start?

The Emergency Plug will communicate with the car's software by making the car think it is being charged. As a result of this, it will not be possible to operate the car or for it to drive off. Every Electric Car and Hybrid has a mandatory built-in safety feature that will prevent the car from being operated once the car is being charged. All manufacturers must follow this protocol and implement this feature to prevent serious damage to charging stations and high-voltage grids. Using the Emergency Plug, all Electric Cars and Hybrids worldwide can now be safely disabled.
